Research lines related to the Master's Degree in Periodontics and Periimplantology:
Line 1: Systemic repercussions of periodontal diseases
Study of how periodontal diseases influence systemic health and contribute to the development or aggravation of other medical conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or obstetric complications. In particular, emphasis is placed on the relationship between maternal periodontal disease and both local and systemic inflammatory response, evaluating biological markers, the impact on fetal development, and the risk of complications during pregnancy.
Line 2: Gingival enlargement: connective tissue and gingival fibroblasts
To understand the causes and cellular mechanisms of gingival enlargement, with special attention to the role of connective tissue and gingival fibroblasts in tissue remodeling and expansion. Factors such as the impact of certain medications, hormonal alterations or mechanical stimuli that induce this condition are investigated. Work is also being done on the development of three-dimensional models to analyze the biology of fibroblasts and cellular interactions, with the aim of identifying new biomarkers and more effective therapies to control or reverse gingival enlargement.
Line 3: 3D technology applied to the volumetric study of the insertion periodontium
Exploration of the potential of three-dimensional technology to analyze and quantify the volume of the attachment periodontium, both in healthy and pathological conditions. The aim is to establish standardized protocols to measure volume and monitor tissue regeneration, thus contributing to improving the planning and effectiveness of personalized clinical treatments.
